Here’s some good travel advice from a friend of mine … enjoy

It’s very easy to forget something when your mind is occupied with something else. When you are getting ready to go away on holiday, you probably have several balls juggled in the air, and you might be in danger of something important slipping from your mind.

How can you prevent this?

Tick these items off your list, and you should be totally covered.

Travel extras

Don’t get so caught up in the flight, accommodation and itinerary side of things that you forget the small extras which make your holiday special! Airport parking and hotels are two things you need to think about, with great deals available at Airport Hotels.com. I regularly book one of the Manchester Airport hotels whenever I jet off, as I find the stress-free travel approach the best way to begin my holiday.

Passport validity and visa requirements

Don’t forget to check how much validity you have left on your passport; most destinations ask for six months after your date of return to the UK but check online for any slight differences between destinations. You’ll also need to check whether you need a visa to enter the country you’re going to be visiting, and if you do, how you go about this, and how soon you need to apply.

Holiday insurance

Don’t ever attempt to travel without adequate travel insurance, it’s simply not worth the risk. There are so many affordable policies around these days, and provided you remember to declare any pre-existing medical conditions, you are covered for all eventualities – however, do remember to read the small print! Head online to find the right policy for you, purchase it, print it out, keep it in your hand luggage, and you should have no worries.

Print out everything you need

You don’t need to print everything out, but check what you do need a paper copy of. Most of the time flight tickets are electronic, however you will need to print out the itinerary to hand in with your passport at the check in desk. You will probably also need to print out any hotel vouchers, and if you need to do an online visa, it’s always a good idea to take a print out of that with you too.

Medical issues

Check with your doctor whether you need any additional immunisations for the country you’re visiting; sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t. You also need to make sure you have enough of your regular medications to last you for your trip, so double check your repeat prescriptions and supplies ahead of time. Make sure these are stored in the labelled boxes, and kept in your hand luggage.

Aside from packing your toothbrush, these are the main things you need to remember when you head off on your next holiday. Tick these off your list and you will be covered for all the important eventualities.
